Seventeen-year-old Doug Goodwin?s handsome smile and flashy sports car help him get any girl he wants. Until Vindi shows up at school.

She is blonde, gorgeous and Swedish?somehow seems to know what the boys are thinking?and has an unusual ability to resist Doug's charms.

As he pursues Vindi, Doug learns why males and females view sex and relationships differently. And as the mysteries of Vindi?s past are revealed, Doug experiences an evolution in his perception of sex for his own pleasure, and discovers that he must make a decision.


Love Instincts is a fictional love story that is interwoven with an exploration into the sexual basis of human relationships?and why the ?war between the sexes? never seems to end?at any age!

The characters? behaviors and attitudes are based on actual research in the field of Evolutionary Psychology, which postulates that much of human behavior is due to psychological adaptations that evolved through natural selection in the same way that biological traits evolved??providing individuals with an increased ability to survive and to pass on their genes to the next generation.

Because the biological processes for reproduction are different in men and women, the psychological strategies for finding mates also differ, and seem to be in direct opposition most of the time. As the author explains through her characters, this leads to ongoing conflicts between the sexes that begin at puberty.

The scientific principles illustrated in this book are blended so well into the fictional story that readers may not even recognize they are learning them??but most will come away with a greater understanding of why male-female relationships are fraught with complications. It is a fun read, with dramatic interactions between well-defined characters, lively action and sprinklings of humor and mystery.

Vivid descriptions of the emotions of love, rejection, and jealousy will grab the hearts of readers who recognize memories from past experiences?and may for the first time realize their origin and purpose. Teenagers??especially girls??have a lot to gain from learning the differences in instinctual drives between males and females, what boys are thinking about, and why it is that ?boys give love to get sex, and girls give sex to get love.?

For those who want more, the Epilogue provides additional information on the topics of evolution, natural selection, human sex drives, and research studies on male and female mating strategies. A list of references and supplemental sources is also provided.

For parents??there is a lot of talk between the characters about sex, but no descriptions of sexual encounters beyond kissing.
